75 Years of Family Hospitality in the Heart of Vevey

Since 1950, the Ming family has embodied a hotel tradition in Vevey built on excellence, dedication, and innovation. On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, the Astra Hotel Vevey pays tribute to its roots while reaffirming its mission of offering contemporary hospitality in the heart of the Vaud Riviera.

A Dynasty of Hoteliers Rooted in Vevey
The story begins in 1950, when Josef Ming acquired the “Buffet de la Gare” and turned it into the Hôtel Pavillon, a modest 11-room establishment. A visionary, he laid the foundations for continuous growth, led by the next generations: Niklaus Ming and his wife Monique in the 1970s, and today, co-directors Christophe and Nicolas Ming, who share the same passion.

From Hôtel Pavillon to Astra Hotel Vevey
The site’s history dates back to the 19th century with the Hôtel de la Gare, later becoming the Pavillon des Voyageurs in 1912, and eventually the Hôtel Pavillon. In 2005, the hotel complex was renamed Astra Hotel Vevey, marking a new era with modern facilities, a wellness center, seminar rooms, and a diverse culinary offering – notably the iconic historical brasserie, La Coupole 1912.

Tradition in the Service of the Future
Firmly anchored in Vevey’s collective memory, the Ming family has always blended tradition with modernity. Preserving heritage – such as the 1927 Fête des Vignerons frescoes or stained glass by Michel Delanoë – while continuously innovating in services, defines the hotel’s philosophy.

A Culinary Journey Back in Time
To celebrate this jubilee, the historic Brasserie La Coupole 1912 will revive the flavors of the past. Starting September 1st, a traditional dish will be served each week from Monday to Friday, offering guests a delicious journey through the iconic recipes that have marked the hotel’s history. As a nod to past customs, the famous Sunday Roast will also make a comeback at lunchtime – a warm and convivial dish, perfect for sharing.

Discover the Lavaux-UNESCO vineyard and its winegrowers!

Vevey at the gates of Lavaux – a living heritage to discover

A wine tourism destination par excellence, Montreux Riviera has something to please wine lovers. But not only… the site of Lavaux – inscribed on the prestigious UNESCO list – will also amaze those who are keen on heritage and authentic tourist attractions, or even walking enthusiasts!

The exceptional landscape offered by the terraced vineyards overlooking Lake Geneva is already a good reason, in itself, to go there. But there is no question of leaving without having tasted its nectar – whether in one of the many restaurants in the region or directly at a winegrower’s house. And if you would like to learn more about the history of the place and winemaking, the Lavaux Vinorama is well worth a visit, which also offers guided tours. Just like Walk & Wine, which organises weekly outings and private visits.

The Astra Hotel is the ideal place to visit the vineyards, whether you travel by e-bike – which you can rent at the hotel – or by train, whose station is right opposite.

Visit the region and its tourist attractions!

The Vaud Riviera has a fascinating history and a large number of museums!

Famous personalities and artists, such as Lord Byron, Sissi, Gustave Courbet, or more recently Freddy Mercury – to name but a few – were already visiting the Riviera to admire its beauty and be inspired by it.

These guests have left traces of their passage, to be discovered in various devoted museums, including the famous Château de Chillon in Veytaux-Montreux, or Chaplin’s World dedicated to the legendary Charlot who lived the last 25 years of his life on the heights of Vevey.

Nestlé headquarters, “Vevey la Jolie” also has the privilege of housing the Alimentarium, which offers a playful approach to all aspects of food.

Thanks to the Montreux Riviera Card, given to you on arrival, you can benefit from reduced-price entry to all these sites and travel for free on public transport. What more could you ask for!

Located opposite Vevey train station and with its own underground car park, the Astra Hotel is ideally situated between Montreux and Lausanne, at the gateway to the Lavaux-UNESCO vineyards.
